Service Description

What is MBSR? Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction is a rigorously researched mindfulness-based course which offers an 8-week experiential, group-based programme. Each session includes guided mindfulness meditations, movement practices and group discussion. Mindfulness invites us to find more ease in our daily lives by relating differently to our moment-to-moment experience, literally coming back to our senses, and learning to pay more consistent and kind attention to our present-moment experience. What are the benefits? According to the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice at Bangor University, the majority of people completing the programme report lasting physical and psychological benefits including: • an increased ability to relax • greater energy and enthusiasm for life • heightened self-confidence • an increased ability to cope more effectively What to expect during a session? We will meet on-line for 2 hours 15 minutes each week, for 8 sessions. Each session typically begins with a period of guided meditation or yoga-inspired mindful movement. There is also time in each session for group discussion where we explore the learning and challenges arising from our meditation practice. We also explore helpful theories around stress, anxiety and low mood and how we can learn to respond in new ways. The 8-week group programme includes an additional Orientation session and a half-day of silent guided practice in addition to the 8 evening sessions. All course resources including audio recordings of meditations, handouts and certificate of completion are provided. What is expected between sessions Your home meditation practice is an integral part of the MBSR programme. You will be invited to commit to finding 30-45 minutes each day (or at least 6 days out of 7) to practice recordings of the meditations we do together in our session. If you are unable to make this commitment right now then maybe it is not a good time for you to attend an MBSR course. Feel free to contact Kate to talk more about what can work for you. Taking good care Before participating in the course, I request you submit an application form: https://forms.gle/zcxKRdKWGARsCCPE7 and may suggest we meet for a free orientation conversation, during which I will answer any questions you may have and help you assess if this is the right time for you to take the course.  As a trauma-informed teacher, I take my role to support your learning and well-being seriously.
