MBSR: Grounded Presence

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) offers an evidence-based approach to the stresses, anxieties, and sense of disconnection that can arise from navigating these turbulent times.

This 8-week online Grounded Presence course brings together mindfulness, neuroscience, and nature-aware practice to help you meet life’s challenges with greater calm, resilience, and care. Through guided meditations, gentle movement, and shared reflection, you’ll learn to return to your senses, steady attention, and reconnect with what truly sustains you.

Grounded Presence invites you to notice how nature supports and mirrors our practice — reminding us that we are part of the living world, not separate from it. As we cultivate mindful awareness, we also awaken a deeper appreciation of our reciprocal relationship with Earth, and our shared capacity to care — for ourselves, one another, and the world we belong to.

What to Expect from our MBSR Course

What are the Benefits of Grounded Presence?

According to the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice at Bangor University, most people completing MBSR report lasting physical and psychological benefits, including:

• An increased ability to relax

• Greater energy and enthusiasm for life

• Heightened self-confidence and resilience

• An increased capacity to respond to life’s challenges

The Grounded Presence programme also encourages a deeper sense of connection - with self, others and nature. In this way, it helps us grow the calm, resilience and sense of agency that enable compassionate action, supporting us to live with awareness and care for ourselves, one another, and the wider world.

What to Expect During the 8-Week Course?

We will meet online for 2.5 hours each week for 8 sessions. Each session typically includes:

  • Guided meditation and mindful movement

  • Group discussion and reflection

  • Exploration of the science of stress, anxiety and low mood

  • How we can learn to respond in new and more skilful ways to enhance well-being for self, community and Earth

An Orientation Session takes place before the course begins, and a retreat day of Mindfulness Practice is offered midway through the programme.

You’ll receive all course materials — including recorded meditations, home practice guidance, workbook and online support resources — to support your learning.

Cultivating Presence Between Sessions

Your daily home practice is an important and transformative part of the course. You’ll be invited to set aside 30–45 minutes most days for guided meditation and mindful awareness exercises.

For many of us, finding this time can feel challenging — even countercultural — in the pace of modern life. Rather than another task to complete, home practice is an opportunity to pause, breathe, and return to yourself. We’ll explore together how to make this commitment workable and how mindfulness can gently infuse ordinary moments throughout your day.

Nature-based practices are woven into this process, helping to ground mindfulness in your everyday environment — a view from a window, the sound of rain, the feel of the earth underfoot. These simple gestures of attention remind us that mindfulness and nature connection are not separate, but part of the same living presence.
